The story behind StoryMagic
We make storybooks where the hero looks back at your child from every page — their face in the illustrations, their name in the story. It started with a simple observation at bedtime: nothing holds a small child's attention like recognizing themselves.
Why seeing yourself in a story matters
Teachers and librarians often describe books as mirrors and windows: windows let children look out into lives unlike their own, and mirrors let them see themselves reflected in a story. Both matter. But in those first years of reading, the mirror does something special — when the hero shares your name and your face, the story stops being about someone else. Listening turns into leaning in, pointing at the page, asking for the same book again tomorrow night.
That eagerness is the whole game in early literacy. Children learn to love reading by wanting to come back to it, and they come back to stories where they belong. A child's own name is often one of the first words they recognize in print; finding it inside a real book, on page after page, is a small thrill that makes the letters mean something.
We'll be honest: a personalized book isn't a replacement for a rich, varied bookshelf — children need windows too. We think of a StoryMagic book as the one on that shelf that gets requested most: the mirror that makes bedtime reading something your child asks for, not something you coax them into.

How the craft works
"Personalized" can mean a name typed onto a template. We wanted something you'd be proud to keep on the shelf for years, so every book goes through three stages of care:
Illustration first
Every story begins as a fully illustrated 24-page picture book — composed scenes, consistent characters, and art direction chosen for its age range. The art is the foundation; personalization never replaces it.
Careful personalization
Our face-personalization technology blends your child's features into the hero on every character page, matching the illustration style rather than pasting a photo on top. Their name is woven through the text from the first page to the last.
See it before you buy
You get a free preview — your child as the hero on the cover and sample pages — before paying anything. Not quite right? Change the photo or details and preview again. And if a printed book ever arrives with a defect, we replace it free.
Finished books are printed on demand in a square 8×8" format on thick matte paper, at the professional print facility closest to you, and shipped worldwide with tracking — built to survive hundreds of bedtime reads.
Our privacy promise
You're trusting us with a photo of your child. We treat that the way we'd want our own children's photos treated:
- Photos live in private, access-controlled storage and are used only to create your book.
- They are never used to train AI models, never shared for marketing, and never made public.
- You can delete photos and books from your dashboard at any time — and ask us to erase everything.
The full details are in our privacy policy, written in plain language.
The best way to understand it is to see it
